4 slices of Stone Milled1 lb. of Gala apples, peeled1 lb. of Golden delicious, peeled1 orange juiced1/2 cup of brown sugar1 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon1/2 tsp. of nutmeg1/2 cup of water1 tbsp. of salted butter.

- 1 lb. of Gala apples, peeled
- 1 lb. of Golden delicious, peeled
- 1 orange juiced
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. of nutmeg
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1 tbsp. of salted butter

Preheat oven to 375°F.Grease an 8x8 baking dish.Crumble the bread by hand into coarse crumbs, place in a large bowl and set aside.In a separate bowl, toss the peeled and diced apples with the orange juice, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.Place a 1/3 of the bread crumb mixture in the baking dish and sprinkle with half of the apple mixture. Repeat with another layer of breadcrumbs and then apples, finishing off with a final layer of the breadcrumbs.Sprinkle ½ cup of water over the dish.Dot the top of the casserole with a few thin slices of butter.Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes, until the apples are tender. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, until the top is lightly browned.Serve warm with ice cream or fresh whipped creamed, if desired.
